This may be very distressing for some...
If general is not the appropriate place for this feel free to move to rescue, i thought more people will see this here....
This little fellow was picked up as a stray on Friday and impounded. He is unchipped and in appauling condition.
His age on entering the pound due to his physical condition was put at 17.
His teeth tell another story as i discovered....around 7 years of age.
This little boy upon entry was emaciated, dispondent and being eaten alive by fleas.
He has been named "Francis" after St Francis of Assisi...the patron saint of animals. 'Jude' was considered too...the patron saint of impossible tasks, and
"Gabriel" after Arch angel Gabriel.
Another volunteer and i bathed this little boy three times while the water turned red and fleas ran across his eyes, in his ears and up his nose.
I was so concerned about his welfare and the stress he was under we stopped bathing, wrapped him in towels in the sun and hand removed the matting and fleas from his skin. He was capstared, advantixed 3 times and bathed but still they swarmed.....I wormed him the following day. Yesterday he developed an eye infection and he has an ear infection as well. (he is recieving treatment for this)
Francis remains dispondant though has improved slightly in his responses and is obviously much more comfortable. He is eating special food as well and very cosy.
If Francis (and I) are lucky, he may be able to be released under duty of care a day earlier than his due date (Friday)
I have seen one other dog this dispondant, though she was in much better physical condition. We adopted Daisy ourselves and while she remained curled in a tiny ball for three months in distress you should see her now!
What are your thoughts? keeping in mind there are many younger, healthy and rehomeable dogs also in dire need...
