Having just purchased a dog from a pet rescue 'dealer', I am prompted to warn others contemplating rescuing a dog via this web site.
I located my new dog via the pet rescue website. I was impressed that the organization boasted all dogs would be sold desexed, microchipped and vaccinated. The dog I liked the look of ticked all the boxes and the modest $300 fee seemed reasonable for the vet fees and seller's costs. Arrangment was made to view and I subsequently liked the dog enough to give it the 2 week trial........
Well, got the dog home and it was full of surprises. Apparently it loved kids(except mine), preferred outdoors(except my indoors), was very quiet(except when barking the house down), got on well with other animals(except when trying to eat them). It could climb 8 foot fences(not jump but climb!!!) and didn't mind being alone(except when around other people). It slept continuously, was underweight with ribs and hips obvious and was full of fleas.
We trialled her but she just wasn't making it in our rural area. With lambs and baby deer nearby, she had to go back because we couldn't keep her in. When we contacted the seller, she wasn't to be found. Refused to return our calls and even answer the door when we went to her house. Luckily, we insisted on the seller desexing the dog before we took her for trial as the seller was more than happy to let her go without(we could do it later apparently).
2 months on now, we have never received the promised vaccination papers or microchipping details.
Nice little earner for the seller. Single mum on a pension skimming around $100 a dog. Not bad money. She sold 4 dogs in the few days we dealt with her and one of the other puchasers is still chasing her for their stuff.
Let the buyer beware!
Anyone else had similar experience?
