Sorry if i dull the mood of anyone..
Lex fell off my ute last thursday night after i hit a speed hump in a back street where there were no street lights and it was one of the black humps that arnt as wide of the road. He was chained up like he always is when he goes on the ute.. a split second after i had hit the speed hump i thought of lex because i know he doesnt like loud sudden noises, and as i looked out my side mirror was lex hanging by his collar, intinctivly i paniced and lock the brakes up and pulled the handbrake up, which caused the worst of whats to come..
After i had come to a stop, i flew out the drivers side door around the car to where lex was..i thought the best thing to do was take the pressure off his neck so i grabbed him from behind, now he weighs 42 kg so the 1st attempt to take pressure off was unsuccessful and i had not realised till it was all over that he had bitten my hand several times, my adreneline was pumping and i never noticed..
Anyway, on the second attempt to take pressure off his neck i had shockingly realised his rear right foot was caught under the rear left tire of my almost 2 ton ute, lex was yelping and screaming i had never heard a dog make that noise, i was so scared.. all i could do was scream "his foot is under the wheel"!!!... luckly for me my GF's father was with me and he jumped in the ute and rolled my car back pff lex's foot... i feared the worst as i looked at his foot, and it looked like something out of a horror film, lex immeditatly started licking his wound.. with out thinking and my adreniline still pumping i lifted him up and put him in the tray and put the tub cover over him..
I rang the emergency line and organised for lex to come down. AS we pulled up at the vet they were waiting for us, and we quickly got him into a room, i started to calm down at this pint as i knew we were in capable hands. So i focused on lex and comforted him, he is such a strong boy he was still wagging his tail when i called his name..
The vet looked over him and said there is a good chance he will lose his toe (rear right foot toe closest to his body). With severe damge to the next toe across (bad grazes and bone exposed).
Anyway, long story short lex got out of surgery on saturday afternoon and givin the all clear to come home sunday morning...
He is doing good and is coping fine, just as bright and bubbly as he ever was.
Vet said he should be walking in a minimum of two weeks.
Almost 2 thousand dollars later, is a small price to pay for the life of my puppy.
He no longer will travel in the tray of my ute, and i use my story to people as a caution..
Thankyou if you read right to the end..
