I will be adopting a staffy cross in a little while. He is about 12 months old we think.
I have been reading heaps on how to help him settle in and crate training seems to be very high on the list. I have never used a crate, so I would appreciate any suggestions regarding this.
So far I think I need to introduce it to him from day 1, it has to be his happy safe place, the kids aren't allowed near him if he is having quiet time (my kids are not babies 12,9 & 6), it needs to be comfortable and cosy and we can move it around so he can be with us.
Any suggestions as to what to do the first night? do I put him in the crate in our bedroom and close the door the crate door or leave the door open? I don't know how well he has been toilet trained so do I close the door and then take him out first thing to start the toilet routine?
When we are at work, can I put the crate outside on our covered verandah or should he have an inside crate and an outside trampoline?
Thank you for your patience and insights.
