Hi, (I apologise for the length)
My dog Archie has had a saw poor for about 2 weeks. We took him to the vet as it was a large swelling on the top of his paw.
The vet first said they believed it to be a grass seed and they put Archie on antibiotics hoping that the grass seed had already come out - it hadn't! So he had an operation so that they could remove it, they couldn't find anything in there. That was a week and a half ago and since then he's just got worse. We have been back to the vet several times since the operation for bandage changes etc and he has since developed an irriatation around his mouth (In which the vet has no suggestions) where he is scratching at his chin until it bleeds, he licks anything and everything and he won't let you look in his mouth (never a problem before).
My question is should we be seeking a second opinion? We are currently going to Bellarine Veterinary Clinic in Newcomb, Geelong where we have seen a different vet almost everytime, but after many costly visits Archie's foot is now swelling on the underside and he's very unhappy and all they can suggest is trying different antibiotics and to come back every 2 days in which they charge. It is not the cost that worries us but the idea that they may just be taking advantage. They are well respected Vet and as we've seen different vets within the same clinic I'm worried I may be over reacting but at the same time hate watching Archie suffer.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
