I came home today from running a few errands and Roxie had chewed one of my thongs.
When we first got her she chewed my black havaianas (and we all know how much the rip you off for those) so I replaced them, because I don't actually really ever wear shoes except in an office, and even then I have one pair of flats that I wear everyday, and runners.
Now she has chewed my new thongs.
There is a spot between a chair and a table where I leave my shoes. She never touches them, even when I leave my runners there. I stupidly left my thongs in front of the chair not behind it, and apparently this means she is allowed to have them. I completely forgot about them, like I said, I normally wear my black thongs everyday, but today I decided to wear my brown ones because they 'went' with my outfit better.
When I walked in and saw one shoe I flipped and yelled out 'Roxie, where is my shoe??' then proceeded to go outside where Roxie ran and hid, completely terrified. I found my thong in tatters and picked it up, asking her what she'd done, so she freaked out more. My Dad came out and was calling her, she wouldn't come, even to him (though she seems to have a problem with that anyway). She wouldn't come to me understandably, I was furious and yelling.
We finally blocked her behind the veggie patch and Dad picked her up, I put the shoe in front of her face and told her No repeatedly. I didn't hit her at all with it, though I wanted to smack her little butt repeatedly.
Then I left her outside for the rest of the day. We have 'made up' now but I'm still not happy.
I don't understand how the geography of 1m can make it ok for her to destroy my things. When we first got her she chewed my ugg boots (my shoes make me sound like a bogan!), but I think she just liked the pompoms on the end (dont ask, they were the snowflake ones you get from kmart, they've actually bought them out again this year which makes me happy face). And she chewed a pair of flats that I had for work so I had to replace them. That was ok when she was new and didn't know better, and then (I thought) she'd learnt that it was wrong. I was also working then so I could afford shoes. Now I have no job and lots of bills to pay, and I'm minus a pair of ridiculously over-priced thongs.
It's not recurring enough for me to do something about it, although she steals socks from anywhere she can. She never chews them, just plays with them. She did murder a tissue the other morning, I have no idea where she found it. And she chewed a pillowcase of mine. While it was on a pillow, on my bed, and I was sleeping on it. This all happened at odd intervals, normally she is so good.
Maybe she needs more exercise?? I give her two walks a day, I could increase the length. We play in the lounge room. Mum plays with her outside, throws her toys etc. Dad plays with her, runs about and sometimes walks her as well. She has infinite amounts of energy!
I guess I'm just going to have to be vigilant about putting my shoes behind the chair and not anywhere else. Dad left his runners outside for a week though and she didn't touch them, and I'm the one that she listens to and follows about!
Any suggestions before I slowly become permanently bare-foot???
