Hi everyone, I'm new here, and also a new ''Mum'' to the most divine furkid! He's an almost-3 year old yellow lab retriever. I picked him up from the pound two days ago. Unfortunately he got kennel cough there, and they gave me a few tablets to treat it, but is there anything else I should be doing to help him recover?
Also, I am really unsure about whether to encourage him indoors or to keep him outside. He has free roam of the backyard and our covered entertainment area, and myself and my two children spend a fair chunk of time outside, we've been playing fetch and rumbles with him which he loves. But if we are inside, he follows us around the outside of the house, coming to whichever window or screen door is closest and just gazing in. I feel sorry for him out there, but worry that if I let him in he won't see me as boss anymore?
Because he doesn't just walk through the door at any opportunity, would it be likely he was an outdoor dog at his old home? Is it a bad idea to turn an outside dog into an inside dog? This weather is starting to turn chilly and I worry about him cold outside with that kennel cough (His bed is cushioned with an old queen size feather doona but still...)
Thanks in advance,
