Hey guys, Big Red here. Glad to be here with you all
A little about myself, okay I come from Victoria. I made a profile here so I could learn all about dogs (specifically Rottweilers) before I went ahead and became the carer of one.
I have owned a small dog before, an Australian Terrier X Jack Russel when I was a child. We hadn't trained her properly, I was only 8 when she was given to me as a gift. I've had her all my life until 2 years ago when our batch of dogs (4 in all, all small sized of different breeds) were poisoned to death by our neihbour. We can't prove it, but we know he did it. The worst part was seeing thier conditions deteriorate over time. These dogs were lovely, happy, full of life and energy, always running around and wagging tails. When they got sick, they never did that, their health deteriorated fast. They would just lie there, barely able to eat, unable to move. Eventually they had to be euthanised due to the overwhelming damage to thier kidneys and health. Christ.....
ugh, since then I havn't really felt the same about owning dogs. I wanted another one, but I kept trying to put it off but the desire for dog companionship is too strong now. I'm very active, I go for runs and walks and rides all the time but it's boring without my dog! I want another dog to do these things with, one that suits my personality and size the most (I'm 6'6'' tall, weightlifter) and I think the Rottweiler is it.
However this time, she will have to be trained and socialised and understand basic commands. I am here to learn as much about Rottweilers before the day comes that I find myself at the pound/kennel/petshop picking one out... So pardon my silly questions and beginnerisms and hopefully we'll have a happy, responsible dog/owner relationship one day
