Rocky mainly gets around in the back of a 4wd, so he gets lifted in and helped down (so he doesnt have to jump from that height). If I say 'up' he'll put his front paws up and then I'll have to lift him from there, thing is, he's getting far too heavy so I need to get a tighter grip to lift him but I dont want to hurt him!!! So I really dont like the idea.
Today I wanted to take him to the park, so I tried to get him into a sedan for the first time. Again he got his front paws in, walked forward a little bit but back legs were still on the curb and he just wouldnt get in any further. Tried coaxing him in with treats, a bone, and praise but to no avail.
He's always been a bit suss of going through tunnels (like the confidence course at training) which I guess would be similar, but he has done it! and he knows that getting in the car = something good!! He only ever goes in the car if he's going to the beach, park, or training!
I just really want to get him to be able to quickly get in and out of the car incase theres ever an emergency of some kind or I dont have 45 minutes just to get him in.
Is there anything in particular that I should try doing? Im kinda out of ideas, treats, praise, the association that the car = something good...
