Patience is one of the keys to training.
I think this being your first dog, and being young, without any help then you need to cut yourself some slack and go with the flow a bit.
You've also put extra pressure on yourself by being in a complex. I'd wouldn't sell a pup to someone in a complex and whippets are quiet dogs.
Urg. According to mum, TOT is 'torturing a dog'. Mum really p!sses me off, with her lack of understanding, even though she read the info sheet.
Masha, it seems to me that your parents have very different views on how to raise a dog than you do, and possibly all of us here.
I really don't know what sort of outcome is ever going to be achieved in a situation like that. I feel for you, I really do.
Please don't get another dog until you are old enough to be out on your own and supporting yourself and your dog.
What you say about your parents is enough to give me the poos and I don't even live with them.
As much as I want to help it's like pulling teeth trying to because of your parents ignorance. Sorry I know they are your parents and I probably should be true to my years and not say such things.
i should start a thread 'so hard to have a puppy.' FULL STOP
hope ur both doing well,
Terra is stressing me out, snapping, peeing shes off in her own world....
she follows me around and sleeps well at night but i dont know shes just like a toddler, so hard to keep track of, i hope things get better .. i feel like
just turned around shes finally asleep! so cute , need to get her on the farm, so active!
Masha, how about suggesting to them that if they felt that you were mature enough to handle the responsibility of having a dog, then how about respecting that - make a deal with them, set a time frame, say 6 months, where they respect whatever training methods you use, and if by the end of that time there is no improvement in Dora's behaviour then you will hand over ALL of the responsibility to them.
In My Home Dog Minding
Yea... my parents think the opposite of me on the subject of dogs. As I was getting ready to do the TOT, mum actually said; "Just give her to me, I won't torture her like this, I'm perfectly fine with Dora's temperament right now."
I just said no, this is my dog, I dont want her to be aggressive, and I'm gonna fix it.
Its just to difficult, because no matter what I do, they call it torture towards Dora... they say its unneeded...
