Dragging bum on ground? On carpet? Cleas might know.
*DA runs like hell*
Stop being so naughty DA! Just coz your a mod now doesn't mean you can get all cheeky!
I just trimmed her whoo-ha hair and under her feet! My gawd! What an effort!
Anyone got any tricks for making that easier next time? I think I dug my own grave as I gave her a toy to chew on while I trimmed her back two paws but then when I wanted the front two all she wanted to do was chew ME!!!
Maybe next time I will wait till she is sleeping! Like you do when you trim babies nails! Might have to have Batty playdates to knock her out and THEN do it! Haha!
Not sure if this will help but I have a lab poodle cross who can do the same thing. I trim her hair to keep it short around her anus and make sure she is clean. She is a fuss budget. Dirt and smells and leaves stusk to her a fine everywhere except there. She hasn't done it since.
Charge it up and teach her to shake, then click and treat for putting her paw in your hand and holding it steady. Take it slowly and increase the time gradually. Make sure she has the hang of it completely before you start extending the time too! You can use the word "Yes" in a very happy voice in the same way as a clicker, you just 'charge' that word the same way.
If you're not sure how to teach her to shake, I can help with that she should be pretty easy, she uses her paws as much as Batty. If you want instructions let me know and I'll send them off to you.
Also having someone else there to sidetrack those teeth can be helpful at first, but you really need her to be good at just one person doing it, and holding steady.
It was her first time for it and don't expect too much too soon.
I have been charging the clicker up! So will start using it soon! When I do use it ...am I clicking THEN treating or will it get to the stage where she associates the click with something good and so doesnt need the treat? Thats the bit I'm kind of confused with.
We were stars at Puppy Preschool last night with our sit and come! And were extra good at the new "drop" since you taught be how to do it on the weekend! We even won I prize! Well I did...coz I knew how heart worm was caused!
P.S - Can you post in my tick thread? Do you use anything on Batty? The vet said the collars are REALLY bad for them if they manage to chew it.
Always click then treat. Don't use the clicker without giving the treat. I team it with the word Yes, as I'm sure you heard on the weekend so Batty knows that Yes = Random treat (he has been doing it for a while though) and click = guaranteed treat. The clicker can be used to 'shape' some behaviours and they always work better if they know it means a treat, particularly when they are learning something.
TBH Nope, I don't use anything on Batty for ticks. He gets thoroughly checked twice a day every day, is indoors at night and only really plays outdoors when I'm out there or there is another dog out there. I don't like Advantix or Frontline and even though I doubt Batty would try to take off the Preventic collar I don't want to risk it at the moment. I also want to get his skin and reactions under control before using anything further on him. I don't need the added stress! BUT Batty is short coat, ticks are easy to find on him - not that I've ever found any here and I usually get them on me first - where Poppy has a much longer coat and it would be easy to miss something on her. It comes down to your preference and hers too.
When I asked the vet if it was nessacary she said it was up to us but she would prefer it if ticks were prevented than dogs having to be treated. So I get where she is coming from.
There was a chi there last night. He went to the class before but was coming again because he was SO anti social and SO scared of the other dogs! He sat under the chair the WHOLE night and barked at any puppy that came near him!
The lady with the pug still bugs me...she was shouting at her dog and telling it "no" when it was playing!!! It was making terrible noises...as pugs do...but it was definately having a ball! I guess that could of been me though if I had never seen Poppy play with Batty!
