Tonight was Poppy's first Puppy Preschool class. OH was not so keen on the whole idea and offered to stay and clean the house up PLUS cook dinner so I took her myself. She was such a good girl in the car on the way there and back.
Anyway we got there early and did the paper work. We saw the most adorable pei with it leg in plaster! It looked at Poppy with this longing in its eyes like it just wanted to play.
Then the vet bought out her dog. I think it was a collie type dog. It was white with brown splotches and really cute. It was really interested in Poppy and Poppy wee'd herself, literally! She hid under the table and cryed like we were hurting her! (Angela - It was even worse than when she first me Batty! Like 100% worse!). Anyway the vet reassured Poppy "Its ok", I cringed and she took her dog back out the back.
When the other people and puppies arrived (3 Labs, 1 siberian husky, 1 pug) Poppy was in her element! She waddled around greeting all the people and sniffing the puppies! She was totally in her "lets play" mode and unfrotunately most of these puppies were petrified of her.
We went through the basic rules (No puppies on laps, speak up if we get uncomfortable with the type of play the puppies are engaging in, keep puppies on leads unless they are in a play session and then play sessions are for puppies to interact not us!).
Then she alked about how puppies play and they had a play session. She let a few off at a time then decided to let them all off and they all got more confident! Poppy loved that she was bigger than 3 of the puppies there and took great advantage of jumping all over them! She loved the pug iin particular and he loved her too! Snorting and chasing eachother but the owner of the pug freaked out every time her dog ran or made a noise! I assured her that Poppy was just as scared last weekend when she met her first doggy friend!
We then learn't how to teach sit and come (which I knew already) and it was good to know what I had been doing with the 'right' thing!
Then we touched on toilet training, biting and jumping. The puppies had another play and we all went home!
A lot of what the vet said I knew about but was nice to get the reassurance! Poppy had a ball with all the new people and puppies! She was FILTHY from running in the wet grass...I had to bath her when we got home! She is not asleep on the couch with us!
Overall it was a great experience! And I have to say a big thanks to Angela's Gone Batty as I think our meeting on the weekend made puppy preschool a much more positive experience for Poppy and I!
I was surprised to see a lab breeder there with one of her pups. Do breeders tend to do that? She talked about how they had taken their 12 week old pup to the class 4 weeks ago?
