I have been feeding commercial kibble for the last 11 years.
We feed it to your dogs in the vet too. *gosh shock horror!*
Education not Legislation
Wow, what a lovely thing to say.
I'm going to refrain and stick with: my dogs, my money, my choice. End of discussion.
....in what way would you live a healthier life....by eating fresh clean food that is not processed and pumped with preservatives and things without a name...just a given number
by living of meat pies, McDonalds, takeaway and other highly processed foods?
I refuse to give my dogs anything that I can not eat myself...not to say I would eat green tripe...EWWWW It has to be human grade...fresh and without having been processed within an inch of its life.
People can do what they feel is right and I will do the same. I believe highly processed foods are killing our pets prematurely with all their added garbage, which our pets definitely do not need...and neither do we! I believe kibble should AT LEAST have some sort of specific meat in it and not corn or "meat" by-product as the first ingredient...corn being a grain dogs can not digest and can cause allergies.
I agree with Cleasanta. My family eats very healthy and the only reason I fed SD was because my vet recommended it as a more simple alternative to a raw diet, with all the same benefits. Being gullible in nature, I just trusted her word and didn't bother to do any research. (Which I feel very guilty about.) I always intended to feed my dogs very healthy, natural foods.
I have nothing against people who feed commercial, it's just that I've always wanted to feed my dogs as natural as I can, so finding out SD wasn't what I thought it to be was quite a shock. That link on the euthanized dogs made me not want to donate the unused food..Why would I donate something that potentially has that in it?
Plenty of my friends and family feed their dogs commercial, and that's their choice, and I respect it. (Except for my brother...He feeds his dog Chum. Eww.) I just want my dogs to be eating as clean and healthy as possible.
I comprehend that dumping $200 of food is your decision, your choice.
But perhaps you didn't consider the fact that rescue organisations are crying out for food. And yes, they don't have the resources or time to buy and prepare natural raw food diets. Those dogs are fed commercial food, just like a fair percentage of dogs all over Australia.
If I was to run a poll, my guess is that a greater percentage of members here feed their dogs commercial food than those who feed raw. That doesn't make them wrong. I don't feed commercial food. But that doesn't make me wrong. We all have our differing opinions, and it is kindly discussing those opinions that will give us answers.
If it had been any other brand and I had decided to go raw, I would most certainly have donated. But after reading that link..How could I live with myself if it was true? I just couldn't.
When we were feeding commercial kibble...our dogs would poop 3-4 times a day...big ones and extremely smelly. What they poop is what their bodies do not need/can not process or digest such as corn...beet pulp (filler) etc etc!
Since we have started BARF (raw)...their poops are extremely tiny...do not smell...have the right consistency and disappear very quickly if you do not pick them up in a flash. There is hardly anything in their diet that their bodies are spitting out!
