Hubby's favourites that I do in the slow cooker:
1kg Beef Blade Steak
Mushroom Soup Mix (Powdered single serve) 30 something grams I think
1/4 Cup Flour (Plain)
12-15 Button Mushrooms
1 Large Onion (Or 12-14 Pickling Onions - Note: Not Pickled onions, just the small uncooked/unprepared ones!)
1 Red Capsicum
1 Yellow Capsicum
Beef Gravy/Traditional Gravy (enough to cover the other ingredients)
Chop up beef, mix the flour and mushroom soup together in a bag or container, coat the meat in the powdered mix. Peel the onions, wash the carrots and chop up the capsicum. Put all ingredients in the slow cooker. Set the cooker to high to have it cooked in about 4 hours or to low to have it cooked in 8 hours.
I actually have my slow cooker hooked up to a timer on the power point. I have never had any issues with it, I set the timer to turn off at the point the dish would be cooked so even if I'm late the meal isn't destroyed.
Cooking things on low instead of high does take a lot longer, BUT the flavour is amazing.
I do my traditional bolognaise in the slow cooker and it comes out absolutely superb.
Oh, I also cheat and have a cookbook called Best Recipes For Crockpots and Slow Cookers by Robyn Martin. It has breads, chicken, seafood, beef, lamb etc in it as well as desserts. I got the book from Angus and Robertson but I'm pretty sure they have it in other bookstores too.
