We Recently brought Our English Mastiff Pup, He is About 4 months old.
He has been really good since we brought him, he listens to us, is toilet trained, sits & Drops.
We Have Had him for 4 days, and everything was going great until last night, my son went to call him for his food and the dog went him and bit him and there were adults around as well.
My son does not annoy him, hang off him or anything else, we did not understand it at all.
We went to bed, The pup sleeping at the bed beside me, my son was in another bed in the same room, as we are visiting family. My son woke up and was standing on his bed looking out the window, the Pup growled at him, and we told him no, because of last night my son was already nervous of the pup, my son walked up to the bed and as i was helping him up on the bed, the pup went him without warning and got his face.
I smacked the dog and told him no, and put him outside.
was he guarding me? as he seems to only listen to me or women, but he knows my partner is boss as well.
He has only growled at one other person, my father in law when he was scared of him after he saw him hit his dog as an obedience thing.
I was always taught that if a dog bites a kid you get rid of it straight away and as he has done it twice do we?
has anyone else had this problem with their mastiff? what have you done?
if you have kept it, what have you done to train it?
was it a status thing?
