Yep, I'd say go to some dog shows, talk to breeders and owners - and PLEASE talk to them about grooming requirements, as I explained in the other thread, a Std Poo's grooming is going to be completely different to that of Bella's. I'm just concerned that you don't fully comprehend what has to be done in that respect. However, if you end up purchasing a pup off a local breeder, often they will do the first clip, and show you HOW to groom a poodle's coat, which is really important.
Sorry B, this is the groomer side of me coming out, having spoken to many people who didn't realise just how high maintenance a poodle's coat can be.
In My Home Dog Minding
It is not like grooming most other dogs. Particularly not when it comes to a poodle the size of a Standard.
Look into it further, please.
oh i am. I definately not taking getting a dog with such a high maintenance coat lightly. In fact, I was doubtful about getting a poodle, because of their coat. i have been researching all day. I know a few people at DT wth a gorgeous apricot standard, and I was chatting to them most of the night. they were in the advanced class, and watching them was amazing. the amount of concentration in that dogs eyes was....*shakeshead*
They are switched on alright. If you get a chance, watch them at shows - it is amazing to watch their focus on their handlers.
I've watched one beautiful black standard girls who has done a lot of winning. She watches her handlers' face, her handler watches the judge. As soon as the judge indicates to her, she reads the instant of recognition in her handler and springs into the air with excitement. And boy can she move! Photos just don't do poodles justice, they are amazing!
I love corded coats though... drool....
Move over Nattylou, so I can drool too!
The puddles are spreading....
Seriously though, when I made the decision to try a different breed, finally, the only other breed I considered in the end besides the Newfoundland was the Standard Poodle.
I just found out that mum has experience grooming poodles! she got her mother a mini for her birthday one year, and Mum did all the grooming, including the face, feet and brushing. She did brodie with scissors though, when she didnt have clippers.
