Wouldn't recommend Weimaraner for a novice. They need someone who is experienced to deal with their huge exercise requirements, and tendency to suffer from Sep Anxiety. Like a lot of the gun dogs they are late maturers and you need to find lots of ways to amuse them until the "penny drops" and they suddenly become sensible dog.
If you look at the good Weim breeders puppy application pages they will ask how many hours the dog will be left on their own and/or if you plan to board them.
They were always difficult boarders unless they came in pairs.
Having said that, in the right hands they are wonderful dogs.
yeah, im a teenager, but id rather not say my specific age on the internet, if you know what i mean.
Mum used to breed boxers when we lived in NZ, and bella is the first dog ive trained on my own. I helped mum with Ruby and luca, and trained Luca to do a few different things.
Good points MAC.
I also think the points you have made could maybe cover a lot of the breeds that Boxerini is considering?
Boxerini, do you have a breed (or breeds) you like the look of, or you like their character/temperament? Any breed stand out for you when you see them or pictures of them?
How about a Border Collie? My grand parents have a BC, and she was quite easy to train. would they be good?
German Shorthaired Pointers and Hungarian Vizsla are similar to look at and their exercise requirements and maturity levels are the same but they don't have that pre-disposition to SA like a lot (not all) Weims do.
All three are taller than a Labrador.
The Welsh, Springer or Brittany are all a bit smaller than a lab and are nice, bit of coat maintenance though, especially the ears.
There is also the Curly Coated Retriever, Flat Coated Retriever (again coat to maintain), not as quick on the agility course but still nice dogs.
Rhodesian Ridgeback? German Shorthair Pointer?
If you like training then yep, the Border Collie, Australian Kelpie, I've trained lots of them.
the breeds I like the look of, but not sure about their temperement are:
shelties(but they are too small),
maremma sheepdogs( a friend of mine has one, and I know about their temprement-aloof, independant, tendancy to not be obedient).
the ones I like, and kow about their temps,
Danes, Boxers, BCs.
