Bernie, who we have now had for 5 wks, and is 15 wks old GSD male, wont lay down on command.
Ive been trying the usual technique;
from a sit position, holding a treat to his nose, and moving treat to floor, which he's supposed to follow to a led down position, but he doesnt. He leans as far forward/down in the sit as he can, then stands up. Ive deliberately not held the treat more than say 3" in front of his paws, to discourage leaning and standing too.
Im clearly not communicating to Bernie what i want him to do. All other training is coming along well, except this command.
Does anyone know of another method to train this?
Every previous dog 'got it'. But not Bernie/me combo.
It would be nice to solve this. Ive been giving the command lie down, as he does the behaviour naturally, and rewarding him then. But so far, no luck with command/behaviour/reward.
