After a big weekend, I was looking forward to pleasnt night's sleep. I left my Newfie, George outside to sleep as it was much cooler than in the house and as you can imagine he struggles with the heat.
My bedroom window is broken at the moment and we're waiting for the builder to order in parts, so currently I have to wedge it open with a book.
In the middle of the night I hear a big commotion and realize that George is in my bedroom absolutely panicked: crying and howling beside himself. Initially I thought he had jumped through the window and knocked out the book, causing the window to fall on him gilletine style! Then I saw that the window was still being held open by the book. Next I realized his whole snout looked swollen and thought he must have been bitten by something. Then I reached in his mouth and pulled out the remains of a giant rawhide bone he had gotten for Christmas. If had been lodged between the back of his bottom teeth and the back of his throat.
I still don't know how he jumped up and through the window given that it's about a meter off the ground and was only about 30cm open (given that this is a 60kilo dog). Not only that, but he's jump also cleared my glass bedside table that stands below the window! I'm glad he knew where to get help but hate to think what would have happened if the window was closed or he had knocked the book out!
