I currently share a rental house with 2 other housemates. This house as some of you know doesn't allow dogs and I've been going crazy here without Keeda with me. I would like some advice about renting a house on my own, a house that allows dogs, in Perth (preferably southern suburbs, but anything that I can afford). Sorry, this gets pretty long, so it's just for anyone who has time to read and give some advice maybe.
Now, here's an overview of my finances that I have to keep in mind. I'm horrible at calculating all this stuff out for myself and while I'm doing my best, I could really use some advice and feedback from those wiser than me and with more experience renting etc :S
I'm on 47k a year currently, before tax, about $740 a week after tax.
For the basics, I'd have to pay rent, water, and electricity bills...that's all I can think of...right? I have no idea how much water and electricity costs >.<. Right now I just pay a bulk amount of $180 per week for all bills + rent via my housemates.
In addition I pay $79 per month on my mobile phone plan and can spend less than $100 on my food (I don't really eat much :S)
Now, dog expenses - as Keeda is currently living with my mom she buys her food, but I pay for it. However I'm not sure how much individual packs cost nowadays as it's been quite a while since I moved out of home. I just transfer money to her in bulk every several weeks. Keeda needs to lose weight, so she'd be eating less than she currently is. Could anyone with a medium sized dog give me a roundabout figure as to what I can expect to pay per week on dog food? I'm planning on feeding a pre-packaged BARF diet, or another good quality food. I don't want to feed her those cheap sausage rolls from the market :S
Vet bills - she visits the vet once a year for shots, which is about $100. I'd want to get some savings behind me for emergency vet bills as well before moving out.
Transport. I currently spend about $55 per week to commute to and from work by public transport. I have a 4 cylinder car as well, it's small so won't take much fuel, however I can't drive it for another 6 months.
I would probably like to have up to $100 per week of spending money if possible, and have leftover money to put into savings as well.
So judging by just the above excluding rent itself, water, and electricity I'd be paying about $275 for my phone bill, my own food (assuming I'll spend $100 a week, which I probably won't), transport, and spending money. And I still need to figure out the rent, electricity and water, and dog food amounts.
Judging by this...plus estimated other bills...is it plausible for me to move out by myself? Or do you think it would be REALLY stretching it? I would need a house with a backyard (the bigger the better, but I would also be going out to run and cycle with Keeda daily so if it's small it isn't the end of the world), and preferably 2 bedrooms. I'm trying to figure out all the figures in my head, but as I've never rented by myself before I'm not confident in my estimating skills :S
