Masha, sorry I missed your earlier post about coming when called.
The way I use the "diner" call and "come" are different. When I say diner all the dogs jump up and head to the garage where their meals are prepared, mine are greedy so they always respond.
It's not something that I use to call them with on a daily basis. It's an emergency call only.
In my puppy classes some people, not all, are like my step-kids they are always calling the dog to come, no matter how many times I advise otherwise and after a while it becomes to the dog. (hope this is making sense). It still get them to do recalls and come-fores etc. But just suggest they announce diner.
In our house you also have to spell out walk, if you don't actually plan to go on one, and nobody says car either. Because all dogs will get excited.
So I guess what I'm trying to say is that whenever I say the word diner, I follow thru and the dogs get something out of it too.
Unlike come which I teach using an intermittent schedule of reinforcement and then nothing once they have reached a high level.
