I think I missed whatever caused the fuss.I'm taking this chance to apologise to everyone I have offended in regards to my stupidity (breeding, muzzle), nasty posts and any threads I was not welcome in.
I am also sorry that some members feel there is too many posts about Pit Bulls. This upsets me because as far as I can see most of them are started by me however I am only trying to learn as much as possible, even if some threads seem ridiculous.
Nobody can take possession of a thread, much as some people might like to. It is an open forum. There's no such thing as too many threads about Pitbulls or anything else. It helps if you give a really clear subject line so anyone who doesn't want to know about the thread topic can just skip it without having to read it to find out what it's about.
If nobody tells you what's wrong with Back Yard Breeding (BYB) or about Breed Specific Legislation (BSL) how are you supposed to know?
Anyway - didn't your vet tell you that your dog is Staffordshire Bull Terrier X, not PitBull X, so as long as you stick to that, and correct anyone who says different you're all good. If you're worried your dog might bite and hurt someone, it's probably a good idea to muzzle.
So many things that used to be ok with dog care - are completely frowned upon now but if you never ask questions and do your research - people aren't going to come up and volunteer the info (lecture you) either. So you need forums like these.
I can understand that SBT owners don't want their dogs on the BSL either so they complain any time a dangerous (biting) dog gets called an SBTx when it might not be.
But really they shouldn't be fighting other dog owners, they should be fighting the BSL itself. Otherwise it's like the story "They came and took the .... away and I didn't care because it didn't affect me and then they came and took the .. away... and when they came to take me away there was nobody left to protest or stop them" story.
I've got mixed feelings on the whole deal. If some councils are going to call any mixed breed dog a Pit Bull - I'm in trouble with Frosty. It's bonkers that "pit bulls" are outlawed but "Amstaff" are ok. If the law were fair it would be either both or neither. And given that there is no (blood) test for a specific breed, the law is essentially unenforceable on a consistent basis. It shouldn't be down to some dog ranger's opinion.
I think that the idea of banning certain people from owning or caring or sharing a house with dogs is a better idea. If you are responsible for a dog and it bites someone in a public place - then it's you that should be banned not the dog. Well the dog would need a new home if possible. Same as for abused children. Ie the child needs a new home and the abusive parent shouldn't be allowed near children. It would be good if there was a database of registered dogs, and humans banned from owning dogs and if the owner name and home addresses co-incide - then the human gets taken away.
