So chloe is a fussy b**** (ha ha mind the pun!)... She refuses to eat 'polony' style dog food (for lack of a better word), canned dog food gives her the most awful stomach aches and diarrhea (sp) and you can see that whilst she will give up and eat it eventually she really doesn't enjoy it...
As for kibble don't even get me started, i've finally managed to find one she will eat (no name coles brand) and i am now in the process of trying to slowly change that to advance (the active dog kind due to her needing to put on weight) by adding a little at a time, and i am hoping to eventually trick her into liking it.. argh!
What she will eat is raw meat and lots of it. Mainly chicken as she itches like crazy when she eats a lot of red meat... (but not BARF which i bought at the local pet store, wouldn't even sniff it!!)
So this week i'm giving up in commercial food to try my hand at making her a nutritious meal, as she needs to put on 10kgs not loosing weight!!
I've read heaps (as i said in another post when i first joined) but now i have a 'formula' i want to run past all of you that do the raw food thing..
I've tee'd it up with the butcher from OH's work and he is going to give us chicken mince which is 50%ground up bones and 50% proper meat.
I was going to give her
900 grams of chicken mince
1 cup of vegies (carrots, beans, peas)
1/2 cup of cooked rice (i know not to use a lot, but i've been told to add a little for the carb intake to beef her up?)
I plan on keeping the mince raw, steaming the vegies and obviously cooking the rice..
She will eat the mince no probs on its own (i tried it first before agreeing to keep the supply up with the butcher) however she's not to keen on the rest, so i thought if i introduce a little at a time; perhaps rice first and then vegies..
Will that keep her nutrition levels up? She will be getting that once a day (night time) and for the rest of the day she'll be allowed to snack on kibble all day/mornings depending how busy i am and if i remember to take the bowl away before I leave on my busy days...
She'll also get her treats of bones, wings and necks that she gets just to keep her fattening up..
Also, Kibble.. ARGHH is there REALLY a difference between eukanabua, advance, pedigree and so forth? (the reason i ask is that the vet only sells advance, pet store tries to sell me eukanuba (sp) and then someone else mentioned pedigree as a good brand in another post) I will be comparing the 2 brands when i head to the supermarket next ... but just thoughts and opinions..
Thanks again guys!!
