The late dog trainer John Holmes and his wife had a pack of dogs. John always said it didn't matter who fed or walked the dogs or whatever, it was the one who trained and worked the dogs who was acknowledged master. The dogs he trained bonded closest with him. The dogs his wife trained responded best to her.
Most of our dogs have responded best to me. The exceptions were the ones husband Adrian chose for himself and I stood back and let him work with them although at times I was itching to interfere. For example, even though I took Weyland and Merlyn Deerhounds to work with me every day, fed them, exercised them, showed them etc. Weyland was definately mine and Merlyn was very much Adrian's hound.
