Zed is ball crazy. He would galdly play it 24 hours a day and not get bored.
At first, he would race off and get it, bring it back and run straight past us. He'd sit down further up the yard and expect us to come to him and wrestle it out of his mouth!
Not likely, boy.
So now he is bringing the ball straight back to me every time. I'm then getting him to sit immediately, and am trying to teach him the command to 'leave it.' Don't want to use the command 'drop', or 'drop it' as when I did he does as he's told and drops immediately to the ground - with the darned ball still firmly entrenched between his teeth.
I have not had much luck enticing him to 'leave it' by using treats, as he's sooo ball obsessed he doesn't even batt an eye at the treat, no matter how yummy it may be.
So, I have started to use a 2nd ball which I whip out from behind me to entice him to drop the first one. On the occasions he drops the 1st ball, i say 'leave it' give him lots of praise, and throw the 2nd ball.
Am I doing this right, or what?
