Floyd had he's usual 3 monthly vet visit for check up & as well for yearly C5 vac, yearly pro-heart vac & all wormer pills etc..
Well what a mixed emotion visit it was at the vet this morning..
The funny side of Floyd's vet visit...
At the vet there were a few cats & little dogs being so brave in waiting room yeah, & there is poor Floyd (the not so tough bull breed) sooking & yelp'n like a big sook during heart worm injection, poor vet tried to give him some liver treats to made him feel better, but Floyd just snubbed the vet & ran out of the room asap, you should have seen the looks & laughs we got from other pet owners when they seen what "breed of dog" just howled he's lungs out over a vaccine, the poor other doggies just hid & cowed down under their owners legs
One doggie's owner had asked me what type of bull breed was he?? ( i was surprised how the guy at least knew Floyd is a bull breed), i said a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, the guy said that Floyd was a nicely built solid boy & how gorgeous he was as well as laughing at Floyd sooking & yelping over a vaccine injection, then he's wife gives me the look of horror, then she rambled on to say about how dangerous Stafford's are because she heard on the morning news about the 20 most dangerous dogs in NSW & that the SBT was no2 on list, okies i don't know what stopped me from telling her off tho, but instead i bent down to Floyd's face & asked him for a big kiss & he gave me the biggest kiss on my cheek & i gave him the biggest cuddle, then i sarcastically looked & said to the woman "dangerous hey" yeah Stafford's are dangerous" , dangerous at being affectionate & loving towards people & other animals & i also mentioned how my "so called dangerous" dog didn't even attempt to bite me or the vet during vaccinations or check up, but he howled in pain instead etc, the guy asked if he & he's little daughter could give Floyd a pat, i took the girls hand & showed her how to gently put her hand to Floyd so he could sniff her hand, Floyd gave the little girls hand a lick, she giggled & said it felt ticklish, then put her hand on he's head & neck to pat, Floyd was so gentle towards the little girl in which i knew he would be,he made me so proud & it felt good to show non SBT people the true side to a SBT, the loving sweet non dangerous breed that they are
The woman soon shut up & was gobbed smacked at just how loving my SBT was & her husband apologized to me for he's wife's nasty words.
Now for the not so good news
I had noticed that Floyd's right eye has been weeping gunk this morning, so vet checked it & washed it out, a tiny bit of dirt had came out & he's eye was red, vet said no internal scratching or bleeding was visible so it was more then likely that it was only dirt that caused irritation & redness, vet prescribed eye ointment for me to administer 3 x daily.
Vet then noticed that Floyd's righteye lense had a cloudy look to it, on further inspection, vet said it appears that Floyd has early stages of a cataract appearing due to old age, so now its off to canine eye specialist for further test etc..
Advice will be greatly appreciated ppls, has anyone had or got a dog with cataracts & what treatments did vet carry out & or has an operation been successful etc ???????.
I know that SBT breed can have Hereditary Cataracts, but it appears at birth or up to 2yrs of age in affected SBT'S, so vet & i have ruled out that Floyd has HC.
OMG i'm so worried & upset & Floyd sure has noticed it, he has been sitting by my feet & following me around more than normal since we got back from vet, bless him, he sure is a mummies boy..
