I "share" a dog with my father in law, a part time working dog. She spends maybe half the week nights here.
I have not seen her in a few days and have definitely noticed a shape change.
We are farmers and do breed occasionally (last time was 14 years ago) to replenish our own dogs. The others we do not keep get snapped up by farmers. The Sire is an unrelated blue heeler that also belongs to him. FIL thinks she was about 8 months when he got her in June, he did not ask and the people have moved. She has to be a year or so now.
It was planned to breed her LATER and not to this dog. she is too young, to my mind anyway. It would have been her first season and I put full blame on my father in law, but he has been ill and awaiting an operation. What's done is done and all I can do is get her in to vet check and get all the knowledge I can.
I am going to madly research, I have assisted and watched many cat litters being born but not pups. I have laid down the Law that she now resides here for the duration and till pups are weaned. I can keep a better watch as I am home all day and she sleeps in our room at night here so I will wake if she starts then. I do not want her in her night cage in the machinery shed over there unchecked. She though will be out and about on the back of the ute at times as usual as she lives for that. She had not started actively with the cattle yet and won't be.Yes there is an excellent vet an hour away (none closer) He has done cow Caesars here occasionally over the years and has seen our cats and my son's bird. (so hard to see a vet for bird problems, they are as much a pet as a cat or dog)
I am going to be an expert on this in a few days.
I am so woefully ignorant on this as the dogs are always at my FIL's and give birth there (very successfully too)
Di kicks the couch and swears on her way out.
