Guys, I don’t want to start world war three here… and I probably should not say anything at all.
I know that there are major issues with MANY backyard breeders and MANY pet shops.
However not everybody is the same? I have met a couple of pet shop owners who are very responsible with their pets as to what they sell, when, and who they sell to. I also have known what some here would class as “backyard breeders” yet they are very responsible and knowledgeable also, and their dogs always in demand and only go to selected homes.
Why would we want to alienate somebody who may have shied away from (some) breeder prices and not found anything suitable at the rescues, only to find the love of their life in some other commercial premise.
Sure there are “horses for courses” and issues that need to be followed up with breeders and pet shops. Don’t forget that there are a lot of purebreds in pounds as well.
However can we please be a little gentler on somebody who finds their new family member in a pet shop or from a BYB and joins the forum to find out more on how to care for their baby? It is not their fault that pounds are full is it?
