So I've just moved to the Gold Coast recently and I'm dumbfounded about how rampant dog theft is becoming here. There are stories and reports going around that dog theft is increasing rapidly here on the GC. Last week I head from a parent at my sons school that their 14month old staffy x English bulldog was stolen from their yard in the same neighbourhood that we live. She said she noticed when she had come home from work that her side gate had a random strange tea towel draped over it. She said it was strange as it wasn't one of hers and there is a lane way beside her house. She removed the tea towel but the next morning she found her dog was gone and the lock on the gate had been cut. She has put up a reward but so far no one has come forward.
After hearing this I panicked and came straight home to research these types of things. Apparently people are taking dogs with staffy/bulldog type breeds for fighting and I'm scared out of my wits for Max so much so that I have installed a security camera at our front gate, put up signs that the property is monitored, padlocked our side gate and baracaded everything I can against the gate. Max was being left outside when I had to go out without him but not now. He either comes with me or is left inside (net helping the toilet training but I'd rather clean a bit of mess when I come home then risk him being stolen as he is a amstaff x bull Arab and typical breed of dogs seemingly being targeted)
Does anyone have any knowledge of what to look for as far as properties being "tagged" for dog snatching? I'll be honest living on a property most of my life this type of thing was never an issue but now I'm almost gagging with fright that there are dog snatching going on here. I'm so concerned that I don't even want max to be seen in public which is tearing me up as I beleive he needs as much exposure to varying experiences right now.
If you live on the Gold Coast or there is dog theft going on in your area what are the types of "tags" I need to look out for?
