My initial thought was ring worm (fungal problem) but that doesn't fit with the hard lumps which fall off.
I'm not a vet and your vet doesn't know what the problem is. I'm thinking you might need a vet who has seen more weird things than your regular vet - eg maybe a University teaching vet. They often get the strange things.
I'm thinking it could be insect bites like mozzies... But I only get lumps if I scratch...
Do the lumps or holes bother your dog at all?
Has your vet said anything about what your dog gets to eat and how much - steroids can make a human look fat. If your dog is a bit chubby, losing a bit of weight might help.
Does your dog come in contact with any plants? there are quite a few ordinary garden plants that cause rashes in dogs.
These are some.

Why is anyone on a forum? And no - it's not always to be helpful. Tho quite a few of us think asking questions is helpful. Yes we get the occasional grumpy type through here too.why are you on a dog forum if you are not here to help any dog of any breed ?.
MMJ - I've got a mutt too. And you can't tell me there are no pedigrees with skin problems. Apparently ANKC does not evict a breeder for breeding blue SBT - complete with mange...
It would really help us help you if you answer some of the questions we posed ("I don't know" is an ok answer for starters), rather than getting hung up on the resident grump's post.
And I don't automatically ban people for making posts like that one - because we like diversity. MMJ has a preference. And that's ok even if the written expression could be better. And the rest of us can have off days where we post stuff we regret later.
Of course, they google skin problems - and google sends them here... this place gets google indexed really fast.
Same as the splurge of designer dog would be puppy owners.
What they need to do is a site search for skin problems like put this into google
skin problems site:www.dogforum.com.au
Then at least they will know they're not alone. A pity you distracted them and they have not come back and given us a bit more info about what it might or might not be.
If owners of cross breeds can't come HERE to learn in peace, you are part of the problem of WHY owners of cross breeds aren't better educated. A point I have tried to make and you just demonstrated admirably. Thankyou.

It's impossible to guarantee this. No matter how much research you do.they might manage to avoid the heartache and wallet ache of buying a defective dog
And you don't know what was wrong with ClairetheDawg's dog. It might have nothing to do with the dog's genetics - could just as easily be mosquitos or poisonous plants in the yard.
I'm sad that ClairetheDawg hasn't stuck around to get actual help. But it's true if one person disagreeing - is too much then they've done the right thing by leaving. Hopefully the dog gets the help it needs as it's clearly much loved. Mutt or not. Same as mine.
What I don't understand in all of this is why the OP did not comment or even acknowledge the posts 'Hyacinth' and 'farrview' posted ? You both put up very good reasons for skin problems in dogs.
Now the OP has deleted 2 posts and so has 'farrview' ! The OP is still a member on here from what I can see.
'Strange fruit' and 'farrview' - I don't believe this forum is becoming 'elitist'. There have been heaps of people asking for advice with a variety of breeds and breed mixers of dogs on here. As far as I am concerned they all have been given a fair go !
The biggest difference I see here is that this OP didn't become involved or even acknowledge that people had posted answers in the thread until 'mymatejack' made his comment - then - What a reaction ?
With all the 'lovelies' that have joined up lately and asking questions or making comments - Are you sure it wasn't another 'botfly' trying to stir things up a bit ?
I love that we're looking out for trouble posters. I think this was a bit more simple than that. They were Australian and legit in what they joined with. With all the 'lovelies' that have joined up lately and asking questions or making comments - Are you sure it wasn't another 'botfly' trying to stir things up a bit ?
I think there are just some people who are either very sensitive - because they've had too many bad things happen to them.
And some people who just think that other people should respond to the request and not offer opinions or criticism (nicely worded or not).
But you can't control what other people think or post - you just have to cope. And here - we mod posts *after* they get posted... otherwise nothing would come up for days.
I can't predict who is going to be upset about what has been posted. It's not like this forum is "ask the vet" and their vet couldn't solve the problem. I'd never seen anything like the photos - well the closest was ring worm - which is good and embarrassing. But lumps that are hard and fall off leaving bare pink skin instead of fur - doesn't really fit with ring worm either.
It was a rather odd reaction especially as there were a range of helpful suggestions. There is always going to be a range of reactions and opinions expressed and I dont particularly feel it has become elitest. I think that there are a very good many of us on here with dogs outside the ANKC registration system and rescue dogs. There have been a lot of good discussions and everyone has got to air their opinions for the most part on that subject.
Understanding how important health is when choosing a puppy and understanding what an ethical breeder is far from being elitest really. I buy pups outside the ANKC pedigree system but only from health tested and proven parents. I know if I have problems I can ring up my breeders which is always helpful otherwise I seek the opinions of vets which is probably easier for me having vets and vet nurses among friends and family.
The OP could easily have ignored the posts she didnt like and focus on the posts that were helpful to her. Hyacinth went to some trouble to be helpful in her post and I didnt get to read farrviews.
Perhaps she got an opinion on another site.
