I said research/media
Media- I cringe as well over their info provided to the public and believe 5% of what they say whether it's dog related/other.
Research- I love reading about diff. breeds, training etc, talking to people. Even as a kid I'd read dog reference books instead of novels. When I paint dog portraits for people I like to read about the breed, meet the dog where possible... helps me understand the subject better, makes it more personal in a way instead of it being just another dog.
I have never owned a pitbull,
but have met a couple.
I think that they are stunning dogs, beautiful looking and the ones I've met were friendly.
I have been told, read and seen that they are:
-Loyal & affectionate
-Good with kids
-Urge to please & protect the owner/property ( just like many other breeds)
-Can be aggressive towards other dogs/animals (just like many other breeds)
-Need a firm hand/training (just like many other breeds)
-They can be a powerful weapon in the wrong hands, and that's where most of the problem is. (just like many other breeds). I have been to a part of the world where these dogs (and others) are used as a weapon almost daily.
I'm more cautious around tiny dogs, as they all love my ankles but seriously, have seen many little dogs with behavioral/aggression problems but they get away with it because they are small. Now! that makes me
