I'm looking at buying an indoor dog bed. Our Sophie sleeps outside, so this bed would be for indoor use only and mostly for napping or awake time just hanging out with us. I'd like something durable, comfy, and clean - something hypo-allergenic would be great, and something that I could easily remove fur off and that won't get fur and dander embedded in it.
Hubby is allergic to dogs, so I'd like to keep allergens in the home down as much as possible. We knew he was allergic before getting a dog - it was an informed decision. We just decided to reduce the effects as much as we can through frequent bathing, brushing, floor cleaning and by restricting where the dog can go (no furniture or bedrooms) - plus extra handwashing and showers on our part! But Sophie has started shedding a fair bit and her current mat gets coated in fur instantly. I'd really like something that would stay fairly clean and could just be inside the home permanently.
My one concern with "hypoallergenic" or "antibacterial" beds is that they are often drenched in toxic chemicals, and there's often no way of knowing this. Does anyone have any insight on this?
Specific beds, brands or shops would be great, but I'm mostly after general advice on what to look for - e.g. are bean bag beds any good? foam? fibre? what kind of cover materials should I look for? How have you all found your dog beds, in terms of ease of cleaning, durability, dog's comfort, etc?
