My older boy GSD, is less bendy wendy these days, and his long haired double coat, is not being taken care of by him any longer. Ive always had to groom him weekly. He behaves like he's at a massage pallour, loves the attention.
His back tail feathers, flanks and butt area, are clogging up with all the hair moulting. He's jumpy around the back arthritic end. And will let me groom him without playing up. He's a handful for a groomer.
Last week, i wanted to take out, as much of that undercoat as i could. There are knots in there bigger than my fist! That's a weekend in the bush for you.
Are there ways of reducing tangles on this coat. Could i shave underneath for instance? The back leg feathers are the worst hit area.
Tools i have.
metal brush pad
a hair brush that does his tail, which is another type of hair in and of itself!
a hose pipe
Next grooming question. On the back of his ears, is a 6 inch area of crinkled silken hair. This dreadlocks up like a mother. Is there a way to prevent this occurring, other than combing carefully 2-5days ish. to keep the knots down.
The hair over his butt, is wiry and coarse, can i soften it, if so with what?
Id love any advice. Whilst ive groomed Bernie weeklyish, all his life, i now have to pick up the slack, where he cant. I realise now, how much effort he had been putting in.
