I very rarely start threads but I noticed pound rounds come across my facebook page. Yesterday alone at Blacktown pound there were 40 companion animals dropped off, pushing the capacity of the pound past its limits.
The majority of dogs appear to be staffy and am staffy crosses with a few kelpie, Border collie, Irish wolfhound and ACD crosses in there as well. Mostly young dogs. I guess this means that they will have to start euthanaising.
I just find this very upsetting. So many indiscrimantly bred dogs dumped in droves when people want to go on holidays. A friend of mine who was in charge of a baiting progam in a national park along a popular holiday destination route told me that after christmas so many puppies and dogs are just dumped in remote lay bys with a bowl of water as their owners head off on holiday. Most of them are baited, some go on to become feral dogs.
Whats with the bowl of water? what sort of mentality is this that a bowl of water is going to be of any use in the scorching dry landscape they are dumped in?
