as you may have seen from one of my previous threads, Serena and Bruno managed to bit through the wire and kill the latest batch of chickens. After an appropriate period of mourning, my thoughts bend again towards chickens. I am have already determined that plain ole chicken wire is sub standard.
I have a done a bit of research and it seems that heavy duty fencing is required. Electrified fence was also considered. I don't think that electrified fencing is an option as I have three little boys who spend a lot of time at the bottom of my vege garden and chook coop.
So here is what I was thinking - obtain some welded mesh/old metal fencing etc as the enclosure. Place a perimter of grey cement slabs around the rectangle (run) that is to be fenced. Then install the fencing on top of the slabs, with the slabs protruding either side of the fence. Fencing can be kept up with either 2.4m star pickets driven 1m into the ground or I could use quick dry cement and cement posts into the ground to support the fencing. I think that this may work and fencing is cheap on good old ebay.
How does this sound? anyone have any other suggestions/ideas/designs from experience or otherwise? Would this keep to staffys out?
