Haven't been on for a while... I have made a decision not to own another GSD. It's a sad day as I love this Breed but they have far too many Health problems.
I have owned three GSDs who have had three different Health problems...so it's just not bad luck. Chloe developed an ear infection a few months after we got her and have been treating it for the last two years and will for the rest of her life.
Vet said GSDs have a lot of Health problems (I knew that) especially skin and ear problems...not to mention Cancer (Hemangiosarcoma) which is very common in GSDs and kills many. If your GSD lives to Ten then you're lucky...my GSD Rex is nearly 12 yrs old (Skin problems) so I'm very very lucky but he now has wobbley back legs and his eye sight isn't good now. He went to the vet twice this year...once for a check up and a few weeks ago for his C5...on both visits we saw two new vets and both asked what was wrong with his back legs...it seems they've never seen an old GSD.
I was reading the Welfare Report in Shepherd News which said some Breeders now just breed for the money and don't care about health or temperament...I think thats been going on for many years. It also said some breeders won't take back or help with dogs they have bred that have been rescued from the pound.
Since I did knew the Breed had many Health problems...I always hoped it wouldn't be mine but thats not reality...it's just being stupid...end of rant.
