I have pre-empted the mud bath by giving my two really bad haircuts. It rained here for the first time in over 6 months the other night, the big Wet is on its way! It's also flower season and with around 8 huge flowering trees in my yard (tiny, sticky flowers) those long feathery tails and skirts are flower magnets. Lucky they don't care if my hairdressing skills are woeful.
A lot of people get the feathering and tail trimmed of long haired dogs, some dogs can pull it off quite well but I don't think Koda could... He wouldn't look like an Aussie without his pants and feathering I get a lot of Golden Retrievers come in for that kind of trimming
He doesn't get much stuff actually stuck in his fur though, its all just mud which washes out easily.
Even then, I haven't groomed him since I took that photo, and its all dried up and fallen off now
Yeah it's amazing how clean they look 10 minutes after being covered in mud. Sadly, as mine are inside/outside dogs that mud (and the flowers) falls off inside. I have a much better relationship with my battery-powered and quiet leaf blower than I do with my passionately hated vacuum cleaner and have thought about just blowing the outside that's come inside, outside again.
Hmmm, mine don't think twice. I just washed them then watched helplessly as they played tug-of-war with the big pink float in the dirt - I'm a sucker and can never spoil their fun. It was just before dinner and time to come inside my just-cleaned house, meant to do it earlier but ran out of time. Oh well, I spent all weekend water-blasting my roof, not much they can mess up there.
Anyway, I'm sure you would do a much better job of trimming the pants and feathering than me - my best effort was the time I gave Oscar a very short clip all over but left him a big poodle pom pom on the end of his tail. Border Collie fail, but it did look pretty cute.
Haha, I don't think your trimming job is that bad... I've seen worse I can assure you I get a lot of people bring in their dogs after attempting to groom themselves and they just say "Please fix it"
A double coat like a BC's is very hard to work with though. It just never sits right when being trimmed or clipped!
