I have just come to my sisters house expecting just the usual couple of elderly dogs. I am committed for a couple of days as I have an elderly mother in this town who I am taking out and visiting.
My sister came back from Perth with her daughters rescue a pit bull cross, not well socialised and about 25 to 30 kgs ( Maggie is a small BC)
Anyway no notice nompreparation and the meeting was awful, fortunately I made sure the dog was on a lead. She was highly stressed when she saw Maggie and lunged several times. Argghh
My brother inlaw is a pack dog kinda person and had this notion that the reason she lunged was she was protecting him as pack leader. Now correct me if I am wrong but if he was the pack leader she would trust him to protect her surely???
So after tea we sat quietly with them near each other me talking with my sister and she had her hand firmly around the dogs collar. Maggie who is very socialised sidled up periodically and after about an hiur the language improved. St that point I took Maggie outside for a pee and locked her in our room for an early nigt ( mainly to keep her safe!!)
Igetthis is a rescue and she has had a lousy start ( she is rather gorgeous but damn those jaws are strong)I just want my dog to survive the next couple of days..... Any ideas... Please
