We both failed .... but its mainly my fault.
And someone else payed the price for it.
So pissed off with Mojo and myself. I simply cant trust him around kids except my own 2.
About a year a go he lunged and growled at this kid .... i had him on a leash so he didnt make contact. It was so out of the blue and caught us all by surprise.
I've watched him like a hawk around this kid ever since and both the kid and myself got our confidence back when he comes to visit. He's my neighbours kid so he's here a few times a week. Mojo never even blinked at his presence.
So on Saturday both my daughter and him went outside to jump on the trampoline. I'm outside and both dogs are too. I wasnt looking at them but they both got off and grabbed a tennis racquet each and just as the kids tried to hit the ball Mojos bloody jumped up on his back and was growling and making such a comotion i thought he was actually fighting with Bronx. Thats the noise he made ...just like a full on dog fight. His head right behind the poor boys head. Luckily he didnt fall....i dont know how... but Mojo didnt stop till i was about a foot away from grabbing him. He must have seen the look in my eye because he let go and bolted.
The poor kid had a few scratches on his back ...but no bite marks thankfully. It scared the crap out of him and me too. We are so lucky it wasnt anything worse. 50kg dog against a 40 kg kid. How he didnt hit the ground still amazes me.
But that noise he made wasnt just a muck around thing...it was a full on "hey i'm pissed off with you" noise.....not just a loud growl.
I'm wondering if he was overdoing his peacemaker thing he does...thinking the kids where playing to rough or hypo for his liking. Or if he thought he was about to hit my daughter with the tennis racquet and was protecting her ???
The kids mum was pretty good about the whole thing and did mention their female Lab is very much in heat at the moment. I'm not sure if that could have played a part in it but both dogs may have smelt her on him too.
Confused ... let down... and pee'd off with my dog.....and myself. I'll never trust him around other peoples kids again.
