Hi. Does anyone know why our dog waits until I get home (after being out all day) to eat the treat (raw bone, pigs ear etc) I gave him in the morning before I left the house? He eats his normal food, but will excitedly present the treat to me to hand back to him before he will eat it? Even if I am home when I give him a treat, he won't eat it straight away but will give it to me or drop it at my feet / on my lap and whine until I give it back to him as well. Sometimes it's several times. We have found that if my husband or I pretend to eat it first then he will accept it immediately more often than not. He is an 18 month old shar pei cross (unsure what with as he's a rescue boy we adopted as a pup)
When he was a pup, the dog trainer we went to for puppy school told me has strong desire to please my husband and I and that we had obviously established a strong pack within our home. I am unsure if it's a pack thing, a separation anxiety thing or a game for him? Any advice is appreciated!
Thank you. :-)
