I've been to Fiji, Bali and Thailand several times each now and I gotta say I still get sad seeing how dogs get treated there in general. It's almost like they are street dogs that just get fed by the same person each day rather than actually being pets or part of the family. Even when they have a collar on it's no guarantee that they will actually be looked after. Many have mange, are too skinny and just chringe when anyone comes near them, it breaks my heart.
Just back from two weeks in Thailand and there were two beautiful little poodle x dogs that lived near my hotel, one apricot, one white. I approached the apricot coloured one and noticed sadly that one eye had catarats (in a young dog) and it limped not being able to put one of its back feet down. I gently gave my hand for a sniff and then softly stroked his head while he stood perfectly still head bowed. Once I stopped he rewarded me with a surprised doggie smile that said 'hey that was nice!' and shuffled closer so I could scratch his back for him.
The next day both dogs were in the street and I went up to the apricot dog again, the white one immediately started barking but the apricot one shuffled up close for a pat. Once the white one realised what he was missing out on he stopped barking and came up to get some loving too Wish all dogs had good homes with lots of hugs and pats, I hate seeing dogs that cringe when approached and are obviously not used to being petted.
