Default We want a small/medium calm lap dog that can run fast.

Any good breeds that you could recommend?

Top few so far: Beagle, Dachshund or Lancashire Heeler

Do you want short haired or long haired? Are you prepared to groom, or would you be happy to clip a dog off? Perhaps a beagle is rather large for a lap dog?

I prefer short hair – less maintenance.

Beagle fits the bill. Most of the short haired dogs are very active, as far as I know.

Italian Greyhound? If they weren't so small, I'd have one myself because they are adorable and so fast They are very calm indoors though and they love to snuggle because they hate being cold.

    Thanks EmmaL and 99bottles!

An Italian Greyhound sounds very appealing.

Hi 'pauldawg' and to the forum ! Hope you enjoy being a member here !

You mentioned a fast dog – what do you mean by that ? What are you planning to do with this pup ?

Having a quiet lap dog is also about training !

Anyway – heaps of suggestions here below in the following links:

Italian greyhounds are fast - but I wouldn't actually class them as being calm indoors - well not the ones I have come across. They are quite cheeky and energetic pups.

King Charles Cavalier spaniels. A disabled friend had two and they were just as happy running alongside as sitting on and enjoying the ride on her wheelchair... and not yappy.
They would lay next to her when she was bed bound and equally enjoy the outdoors when the opportunity arose.I was very impressed with them even though they do not suit my life style I would recommend them for others with limited mobility or who want a smoochy lap dog that is people oriented.
