As you might have read in my introduction, I will be getting my Labrador retriever puppy this weekend, when he’s 8 weeks…SO EXCITED!
As im a newbie dog owner, I was just wondering if you guys could give me some basic advice which will make my puppy’s arrival to his new home more comforting for him.
With this in mind, I have some questions:
Eating – I will find out from the breeder what food puppy was eating up until now, but do you have any specific brand / type of food which would be best suited to my 8 weeks old puppy (Labrador retriever)? I know there are guidelines on the packaging for how much your puppy needs to be fed each day. The local pet shop suggested Purina Pro Plan.. is that any good?
Sleeping - What is the best thing to use for a bed for a puppy?
Access areas – Initially, we planning to keep our puppy indoors, so he’s going to have access to the laundry, kitchen, dining area and hallway, all of which are tiled. Would this be enough space for puppy? Every morning and every evening I will take him for some play time outside. The idea is to keep our puppy / dog to restricted areas within our house (i..e tiled areas) and not in the bedrooms / lounge. So is it a good idea to set the boundaries from a young age?
Other animals – We also have a kitten in the house, who is only a little older than my puppy. Do you think it is safe for them to be in the area together at the same time?
Other – is there anything you guys can think of which will make my puppy’s arrival more comforting? It might be something a simple as leaving plenty of “puppy toys”
Look forward to hearing from you guys.
Thanks in advance!
