Bernie had his first beauty parlour trip this week. Not a success. Id taken him to the shop, he'd met the woman, she seemed confident with him. We talked about what i wanted doing: cut out dreads from his feathers basically.
Do you think i could get him to comply? Stubborn old dog, would not lay down! I was taking him to the groomers, as i cut myself doing this last month due to poor vision, so time to hand the task to another. Also cut a nail too close and dog bled. So definately time to hand it on to a pro.
Well nothing we did, would convince Bernie to lay down in a pet store, for some woman he'd only met once before. He shouted at us, moaned a lot, looked very conflicted, semi collapsed psyche wise. But still no drop. I decked him, he got up, i decked him again, he got up. I decked him a told him off, then started feeding treats < such a palaver. This is a dog who jumps up on grooming table, lays perfectly still whilst i do nails at home etc.
But this w.e. turned into Mr Naughty. He was getting very stressed out in the store's back part where they do grooming. Woman groomer was also 'over it' i could sense. We thanked her for her time, and left.
So, frizbee on road time. Lots of scuffing his nails whilst i had him doing sharp turns etc in middle of road. That was the nails done. Then so i wouldnt cut him, i used my husbands (shush, dont tell) hair timming clippers and cut out the 4 dreads i could see.
Plenty of other hair to cover up my bad hairdressing skills thankfully.
So new shop, and new person handling = No way
Me with electric hair trimmer at home = that's fine
Go figure. Old dogs can be little sods sometimes. He's never carried on like that with someone if i am there before. Maybe getting stubborn in his old age.
Thought the groomer was a solution. turns out a nasty sounding new electric device was fine!
