I went for my walk with the dogs today, Roly goes every second day because he gets too sore, today was Roly's day.
The walk only lasted 50 minutes as aposed to our hour+ walk cause he was slowing down big time.
We walked to my horses paddock, did all that stuff, the whole time, I had Roly on a lead, his hearing and sight seem to be ok but i want to be safe.
As I got to my dead end street on the way home, its about a 5 minute walk down to my house, I had been dragging Roly off every tree the whole walk so on this street, i decided, well no cars are coming, i'll let him have a free walk and smell and pee on anything he likes.
Lady is up ahead and Roly is about 5 metres behind me peeing on a tree, as im walking, I hear some deep barking, I turn around and there is a very very fat Lab and a young looking Rottwieler on leads about 10 metres behind Roly. I put Lady on a lead because im not 100% trusting of her anymore and call Roly, Roly looks at me and starts walking towards the dogs. I growled at him deeper this time and he keeps walking towards the dogs, head down, tail down. These dogs are almost ripping this mans arms off trying to get to him.
I am starting to become frustrated, I start walking towards him calmly, he looks at me walking towards him and runs up to these dogs, the Rotti alpha rolls him, Roly squeeks and this poor man was like IM SO SORRY!
I yanked Roly off the ground (Lady not showing any agression at all btw, hardly even looking)
'No no no no no, completely MY fault, im saying sorry to you'
I walk the last 4 minutes with BOTH dogs on leads.
Great, so in the last 3 months, my dogs have become un-trustworthy and it looks like they have now lost their free leash freedom.
I feel like such an idiot!
Roly is 11 years old, he has NEVER ignored my command.
I would blame his hearing, but he looked at me and ran away.
No bashing, I have learnt my lesson, you can never completely trust an animal, no matter how long you have owned them, no matter how obediant they are.
P.S, Regular forumers will know about Ladys surprising 'attack', she has been attending training again, the dog she took on came to one of my classes and they played together!
My trainer thinks both fights were provoked because she got a fright, but im still attending and being very very very weary around other dogs.
