Oh my goodness, he is so gorgeous!!!! If i were you, i think i'd be a foster failure!
He is a Kelpie X. Most are saying Kelpie X Border Collie but after spending so much time with him I would almost guarantee there is some lab in there as well. You know how labs have that 'waddle' about them? That bounce when they're about to be fed and a little bit of goofiness? It's undeniable in this guy. That said he and Gracie are so incredibly similar in so many ways.
You're right, I do love him and I could easily fail my first foster but this guy needs a lot of work building up trust again and I simply don't have the time to give him that extra ongoing care he will need. He's was recently vaccinated and desexed so we can go outside the yard come the weekend which will be great! Really want to take him on adventures and swimming. He is a MASSIVE sook. Doesn't leave my side. We'll be standing in the back yard, Gracie is fetching the ball or taunting him with various toys and he'll just sit there right up against my leg. Follows me around everywhere, looking up at me like I'm about to pat him for the last time. He came directly from the pound but his previous owner obviously didn't treat him well. A loud voice or harmless arm gesture will make him cower. Strange things make him drop to the floor like he's about to be punished... opening the fridge door, walking toward him on steps. Hate to think of what he's been through.
All that aside he has been saved now and is an absolute sweetheart. Deserves to be a part of a really good family who adore him.
Very quick learner and very eager to please. Already got him to sit, stay, drop, wait for his food, give his toys back (he will only play with an old pillow case I tied into knots for him)
So great with Gracie. They play chase and tug of war all day long, the barking can get a bit over the top every now and again...
Will break my heart to see him go but it is for the better
And if I fail on this one it will stop another dozen or so fosters in the future
G didn't leave his side after his operation
Kelpies do that wiggle butt thing. So do SBT... My dog's got it big time and I think she's got zero lab given how hard it's been to teach her to retrieve. She does like food tho.
You absolutely can bombard us with info - this is an internet forum - so when we click in - it's self inflicted...
He looks a bit cross eyed in the photos. Is his eye sight good?
OMG, just look at these eyes! He is adorable!
'rubberlegs' - any news/updates ?
Skipper went to his new home on Saturday
7 acre property in the hinterland with a 6 month old Kelpie mix there to keep him busy
His new parents are really lovely people and he's going to be a very happy dog!
He's come a long way since death row
I miss him!
Not sure yet! We have to wait two weeks to make sure the trial goes well
We're having some issues with our landlord because of a buddy-buddy neighbour who complained about the noise Gracie and Skipper made
We've been approved for one dog and we let the real estate know what we were doing
But someone has been in the landlords ear (totally exaggerated and dramatised I might add) so we may not be able to foster again
Which is a massive bummer because there's another guy JUST like Skipper at Warwick pound as I type this
Gracie is okay, she's a massive daddy's girl so she spent a lot of the time keeping Skipper away from me
Now she has me all to herself and you can tell she misses him
She actually lost 2kg with him around, she was already so tiny, so we're just focusing on beefing her up at the moment
She handled it really well and I'm really proud of her - it made her grow up a lot
