Bear with me here - I know Jasper should see a vet first about this, but he will be going to the vets next week for his last shot so I'll ask about it then (need to double check), but in the meantime, I was wondering if any of you have heard/seen of something like this before?
He has a raised, red lump/lesion on the front of his neck the size of a five cent coin (maybe smaller). It does have a few small scabs on it (possibly from him scratching when he had his choker on), but otherwise I don't really see him being irritated by it (apart from him fleeing his rear end - he's on Advantix for ticks and Comfortis for fleas so I doubt there's many or any fleas there) as he doesn't scratch at it normally. The area around it is a little red too. It seems very circular and not patchy.
On a side note: The owners of the property recently pulled down an old bird cage and their dog (12yrs old) got sick internally with vomiting and diarrhoea, so maybe it affected him too in a different way? He's eating and pooping fine. He does have a bit of a respiratory thing at the moment since a new slab of cement was put down - If he's taking in a lot of smells, he kind of gags for a second, like we would if we have phlegm. Other than that, maybe something from the bird cage or soil has irritated his skin?
Today I bought a Malaseb wash so think I'll give that a go to try and sooth/get rid of any itchiness and maybe sooth the red sore? (I think I'll check with the vet nurse in the morning before I do)
I asked my local Petbarn what their thoughts were and explained that I read about the symptoms of dog ringworm on the internet and that the sore looked like that, but the guy said it didn't look like ringworm as it was raised and not hollow in the centre like that of a ring. And he also said that because he's had it for a week or 2 now that if it was ringworm, I'd have it by now - true.
