Banjo's gotten a bit fat. It just crept up on me and now I'm a bit horrified that I let her get like that. I used to have a dog who had access to dry food all the time but her genes kept her looking bony. Banjo is a stocky kind of dog and will always look a bit chubby. But I can't feel those ribs as well as I used to. I think it's partly because she runs less since we moved out of the Labrador's place. And then got more treats when puppy was here. And helped him do things like rip open the bag of dry food while I was out and raid the bin.
So I'll start with actually weighing how much I normally feed for dinner. At the moment I just guesstimate. What percentage should I reduce this by to achieve a gradual return to ideal weight?
And for those with dogs prone to being overweight, do you weigh all treats given for training and subtract that from their dinner? What about dry food given in a kong Wobbler or treat ball and stuff? Do you weigh that before you put it in and then subtract that regardless of whether it's all gone before dinner?
I'm not good at this stuff. I'm skinny myself and only ever had skinny pets!
