I live in Mandurah and have the worlds best 15 year old Cocker Spaniel.
She has slowed down a lot of course but the Vet says I can continue walking her 3 days a week.
The problem is that there is an aggressive male dog that is roaming the streets occasionally and who the other day attacked Sasha.
Basically I am in a rental with a tiny enclosed back yard but a huge front yard that isn't fenced. I tied a a 20m long lead to one of the concrete pillars which allows Sash to walk almost to the footpath.
A couple of afternoons a week I take a glass of wine out with me and let Sasha sniff the front yard.
I had just done this on Friday only to find this roaming dog running towards Sasha. He bit her on the back before I could get to him. I basically grabbed his back legs and moved them apart as if it was a chicken wing. He released her and had a go at me. He then tried to get Sasha again but I kicked him hard and he took off.
Hey I know hurting a dog is terrible but it was him or Sasha and what can I say I made the choice.
Fortunately Sasha is ok and I gave her a lamb shank that night :-) I also reported the dog to the rangers but they couldn't find him.
So I guess what can I do if I am taking the old girl for a walk and he attacks again? She can't defend herself anymore and will just collapse on the ground.
Is there some kind of spray I can carry that will temporarily incapacitate the dog so we can get away?
I'm scared to walk Sasha now as I don't want her hurt and she is all I've got.
Can anyone help?
