Trouble is that owning an entire dog has resposibilities and unlike in some countries where people understand this, it is not something I have observed so much over here. There seems to be an unending continuous flow of un wanted puppies and kittens, dumped pregnant bitches and poorly bred animals. Not to mention out of control populations of feral dogs and cats.
As to growth issues etc, been sterilising my working dogs for all my life and havent yet observed a problem although in the last few years I have been sterilising them later although to be honest I havent noticed any differences. I dont really see the benefit of cropping dogs tails and ears apart from giving them a certain look. Certainly with my working dogs the tails serve as a vital balancing mechanism as well as communication to other dogs.
I do agree however attitudes to dogs have been becoming increasingly restrictive, possibly because there are a lot of people who do the wrong thing. I rent out a small house and my tenants have a cat and a dog, but they are fantastic and they pay no more than similar rentals that do not allow dogs. Look after the house beautifully and dog and cat cause no problems. I have had a friend however who allowed dogs and the dogs tore the place apart. An experience like that is what is feared.
I do dog sports however over in the west we dont have any of the protection sports which is pretty big in America and Europe I think that is what Nekhbet is referring to? I would agree there that people who know how to handle these dogs are very restricted. I guess it is fear and ignorance about these sports and dogs.
I am mainly involved with working sheepdogs and they are still strongly in existance thank goodness.
